Residents and visitors are already enjoying Bournemouth’s newly improved Pier Approach thanks to the Council’s major investment to create a world class gateway to the seafront.
Over the past few weeks, the transformed Pier Approach has been opening in phases, revealing the improvements to the area and providing a vibrant and contemporary welcome to visitors and residents alike.
With warmer temperatures set to bask the town later this week, residents and visitors can expect more excitement as the new water play feature is set to be up and running for the weekend (Friday 5 June).
Boasting interactive water fountains set within stylish landscaping the water play feature ‘virtually’ now reconnects the Bourne Stream to the sea. Set to be a favourite amongst families with children this free attraction will provide much enjoyment for all age groups.
The nearby Prom Cafe provides customers the opportunity to enjoy fish and chips and all-day breakfasts with an exciting view of the transformed area and the beautiful beach as a backdrop.
At night colourful and innovative lighting will illuminate the area encouraging visitors to stay longer and add to the atmosphere during the events at The Waterfront space.
A stunning new shelter with high quality seating and, a landmark tourist kiosk featuring steel leaf structures is also complete with the kiosk set to open as planned in time for the summer season.
Councillor Lawrence Williams, Cabinet Member for Tourism, Leisure and Art, said: “I am delighted we have delivered the newly transformed Pier Approach which now offers a contemporary gateway from the Gardens to the seafront.
“Pier Approach will be vibrant throughout the day and into the evening. Visitors and residents can enjoy water play features and impressive landscaping improvements, bringing a modern twist to this historic public space.
“This is an exciting and highly visible stage of our transformation of Pier Approach and is a physical reminder of our commitment to create a first class destination, which in turn enhances the environment for our residents to enjoy.”
The £4million transformation of Pier Approach has been delivered as part of Bournemouth Council’s 20-year vision to develop a world-class seafront. Pier Approach has been one of the first sites to benefit from Bournemouth Council’s Seafront Strategy.
Councillor John Beesley, Leader of the Council, said: “Improving the gateway from the gardens to the seafront is a vitally important investment for the Council. The new and improved Pier Approach provides an outstanding setting for the wide range of events we will be hosting throughout the summer months and will appeal to the high expectations of visitors to the town.”
