The Legion seeks……

Caring, honest, hardworking charity, 90 years young, seeks younger like minded partners for exciting, fulfilling relationship. Must be organised, have a sense of humour and be sympathetic to our brave Armed Forces.

The Royal British Legion is launching a campaign to attract more people to volunteer their time as Poppy Appeal Organisers and are asking the people of Shaftesbury and Bournemouth, Dorset to do their bit.

The Poppy Appeal Organiser position has long formed the backbone of the Legion’s network of volunteers and as the charity recently celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2011, volunteers are being sought to help establish the 2012 Poppy Appeal as the greatest ever.

The 2011 Poppy Appeal nationally has already smashed all previous records, currently standing at £38,394,429, Dorset alone contributed £602,000 to that record amount, to support the Armed Forces family and increasingly, the Afghanistan generation of our Service community.

Recently the Legion launched a successful campaign to attract younger volunteer collectors during the Poppy Appeal, with groups like Loughborough University collecting well in excess of £27,000 in one day alone. It is hoped that the Legion will be able to recreate that success in 2012.

Chris McQuillan – Dorset Poppy Appeal Organiser said, “As a 26 year old, many of those Serving in Afghanistan at the moment are my age. I feel an enormous sense of pride knowing that there are people as young as me, younger even, out there doing their bit to keep the rest of us safe.

Poppy Appeal Organisers don’t need a military connection, they just need to be organised and enjoy interacting with others. It requires commitment, it’s a varied and rewarding role. You will focus most of your efforts on the Appeal between September and November, with some occasional admin work from July onwards. It would be great if you could also fundraise throughout the year, perhaps by distributing our year round collecting tins. The work is fun, worthwhile, rewarding and a great addition to your CV. Training is provided and expenses are reimbursable.
