Newly Released Police Bodycam Footage Reveals Dog Attack and Taser Incident

Recently unveiled police bodycam footage sheds light on a dog attack that occurred in Coventry. The video captures the tense moments just before officers intervened by tasering the aggressive animal and securing it in a wheelie bin.

The incident, which took place on a Tuesday, shows the dog launching attacks on other dogs while people attempt nervously to separate them. The footage was made public by West Midlands Police in response to a witness’s social media video, which showed officers deploying the Taser on the dog and then placing it in a plastic wheelie bin while it was incapacitated. The police force took this step to provide context and address the online criticism directed at the officers.

In an accompanying statement, West Midlands Police emphasised that the animal was “clearly out of control” and had previously attacked other dogs before they resorted to using the Taser. Furthermore, the dog posed a “risk” to nearby individuals, including children, and had even attacked a member of the public who had to defend himself with an umbrella.

To counter claims that the dog had been killed, the police also released footage showing the animal’s condition after the incident. According to the police spokesperson, the dog was seized by the Dangerous Dogs Unit, assessed by a vet, and placed in secure kennels. The dog was found to be in good health, and its owner was fully informed of the actions taken by the police.

Explaining the use of the Taser, the police force clarified that it was necessary to prevent the dog from causing serious harm due to its uncontrollable behavior. Officers swiftly contained the dog by placing it inside a large wheelie bin to ensure the safety of the public, themselves, and the dog.

In a positive update, the dog that was attacked is now recovering at home. Additionally, a man has been arrested on suspicion of obstructing police, and investigations are ongoing.

Is the just another example of animal cruelty or is it entirely justified for police officers to electocute animals?
