Waterfest Weymouth has released a packed programme of activities and demonstrations to wow visitors over the weekend of Saturday 5th- Sunday 6th September.
Waterfest is a celebration of Weymouth’s maritime heritage with sailing, diving, crafts, seafood and shanty music. With a successful previous year under its belt, Waterfest Weymouth has released its programme and is set to be another fantastic year with more displays than before.
Activities are planned throughout the day on and off the water, from gig races up and down the harbour to the return of the thrilling Aquatic Jetpacks wowing crowds with their dolphin dives. There will never be a dull moment across the weekend.
New to this year is one of the world’s only maritime figurehead carvers, Andy Peters, explaining the art of sculpting and, subject to sponsorship, the Royal Navy Dive Tank will be on the quayside with members of the Historic Diving Society demonstrating and using their vintage equipment.
Vessels will be docked in Weymouth Harbour and visitors will be able to step aboard the French schooner from Granville, Le Marité; a spectacular sight when neighbouring the TS Pelican, both with their masts proudly standing above the water. Another highlight is the return of Sir Francis Chichester’s Gipsy Moth IV, commissioned specifically to sail single-handed around the globe.
To complement the scene, Dorset Wrecks, the Royal Navy Corp of Drums and other artists will be filling the harbour side with maritime themed melodies. Plus, 25 stalls will be selling delicious food and maritime related goods.
Roger Dalton, event organiser, said “With just under a month to Waterfest, we are looking forward to the new additions to the event like Andy Peters the figurehead carver as well as the return of old favourites such as Le Marite and Aquatic Jetpacks. We are anticipating another fantastic year and I would like to thank our sponsors, Weymouth BID, Sea Life, Oranjeboom, Dream Cottages and Pengillys for their support”.
