Officers investigating the reported assault of two men in Weymouth are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

It was reported that an altercation involving a group of people occurred at around 6.10am on Sunday 1 April 2018 outside Boombox night club on The Esplanade.

The altercation continued as the group moved past the King’s Statue into Westham Road. During the incident two men were reportedly assaulted.

One of the alleged victims, a Weymouth man aged in his 30s, was taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries. His injuries were not life-threatening and he has since been discharged from hospital. The other alleged victim, also from Weymouth and aged in his 30s, sustained minor injuries.

A 21-year-old Portland man has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and a 25-year-old man from Weymouth has been arrested inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent. They have both been released under investigation as police enquiries continue.

Police Constable Holly Spillman, of Weymouth police, said: “We have been carrying out a number of enquiries into this incident including a review of relevant CCTV footage.

“I am also keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this incident. I understand there were a number of people in the area at the time particularly outside Boombox on The Esplanade where the incident started.

“I would urge anyone with information that can assist our investigation to please come forward.”
