The Weymouth BID is now recruiting volunteers to train as “Weyfarers”. The Weyfarers will not only welcome visitors to the town but will also support the Weymouth BID in its aim to promote the area by providing help and assistance to people, in and around the town.
The scheme will be based on the 2012 Olympic Ambassadors programme with the role of the Weyfarers being very similar. The Weyfarer programme has already been granted the use of the “Inspire 2012” logo.
The Weymouth BID is looking for people that are able to give a minimum of 8 hours or more over a 4 week cycle with the aim to provide an all year round service.
Successful applicants will attend a certified two day training course that will equip them for the role. A distinctive uniform will be supplied and a communication radio will be provided to help and support the Weyfarer volunteers.
Alistair Clarke Joint Chair of Weymouth BID said “The Weyfarers are seen as a very visible part of the BIDs plan and will create a welcoming experience for those visiting the town. We are hoping that people who have a keen interest in their local area will be keen to give up some time to help promote the town and provide useful information to visitors.”
The closing date for this first wave of volunteer applications is Friday 20th June 2014.
Weymouth BID Manager Nigel Reed said “ We are looking forward to the launch of the first team of Weyfarers which will closely followed by the recruitment of a second group who will attend the training course so that the BID can build a great team of volunteers who will also help support events, festivals and cruise passengers visiting the area.”
