Weymouth BID invited members of the Dorset Abilities Group to Weymouth’s ice rink as a special treat as part of the groups Christmas party celebrations on 13th December.  Dorset Abilities Group provides a day service for people with disabilities and additional needs at their base in the old Ferry Terminal building in Weymouth.

Steve Newstead Weymouth BID Chair said “We have taken a lot of time and effort this Christmas to involve the local community.   We were delighted to provide a free skating session for up to 30 people to Dorset Abilities who do a tremendous job working with the young people in our community.  The Carols around the Christmas Tree on Sunday 17th December is also a great opportunity for the whole community to come together in the heart of Weymouth to share the spirit of Christmas.”

Luke Tomlin of Dorset Abilities said “Dorset Abilities Group is a day service for people with disabilities and additional needs. We’re always looking for new and exciting activities for each group member to take part in so we were delighted when we were all invited to use the ice rink on Wednesday afternoon. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Paul, Julie and everyone at Weymouth BID for inviting us to use their facilities. It was the first time some group members had tried ice skating and we all loved it! We are very grateful to be given this opportunity and look forward to future events with the Weymouth BID team.”

Weymouth BID is also linking with REFRESH, a group which represents the churches of Weymouth & Portland.  The group are organising carol singing around the Christmas tree in the town centre of Weymouth on Sunday 17th December.  This event is popular with the local community and families are encouraged to bring along children dressed in Christmas or Nativity costumes to really get in the mood for Christmas.  The event starts at 2pm, is free to attend and there will be mince pies, mulled wine and all the Nativity characters.

The BIG Christmas Ice Rink is open every day (except Christmas Day) until 1st January.  All ice rink tickets are £7.50 for a 45 minute ice skating session which includes skate hire.  Book tickets at www.weareweymouth.co.uk/christmas in advance and SAVE £1 per ticket.  Free parking continues in town centre car parks after 3pm until 31st December 2017.
