Weymouth Conservative Councillor Tony Ferrari passed away while out for a run. On the evening of Monday, November 6, the 70-year-old Littlemoor and Preston Councillor collapsed during his exercise routine. In a show of respect, fellow councillors observed a moment of silence at the beginning of Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting.

Cllr Ferrari had an extensive history of public service. He had served as the portfolio holder for economic growth, assets, and property on Dorset Council’s Cabinet until a reshuffle in May of the same year. He was also a member of Weymouth Town Council. He was elected to the new unitary Dorset Council in May 2019 and played an active role on the council’s appeals committee. He represented the authority on the Ferndown and Uddens Business Improvement District and had previously been involved with the Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership.

Until September 2023, Cllr Ferrari held the position of interim chair for the Littlemoor Community Action Group. He was known for his advocacy on various local issues, including better bus services and opposition to development proposals that faced community disapproval.

Throughout the COVID pandemic, he was engaged in community work, contributing to a variety of projects and supporting numerous local groups.

The sudden passing of this long-standing Dorset councillor, known for his dedication to public service, came as a devastating and unforeseen loss to his fellow ward councillor, Louie O’Leary, who described him as a mentor and a committed public servant.
