WED 3     THE GREAT HEATH VOLUNTEER WORK PARTY, 10am – 4pm. THUR 4  CHRISTMAS COFFEE MORNING, with mince pies & sales stall.  10am – 12 noon, Upper Foyer, Regent Centre, Christchurch. Bournemouth & Christchurch Group.

THUR 4  URBAN WILDLIFE VOLUNTEERS 10am every Thursday at the Urban Wildlife Centre, Beacon Hill.  A mix of practical tasks & survey work, there will be something to meet everybody’s needs.  For details of each task contact Andy Fale on 07970 552673 or the Urban Wildlife Centre on 01202 692033.Map ref. FRI 5        CHRISTMAS LUNCH, 12.30pm, Loders Village Hall.  Invited speaker, subject & all other details to be announced later.  West Dorset Group.

SAT 6 CHRISTMAS FOOD FAYRE, 10am – 4pm.  Kingcombe will be providing delicious seasonal treats from our fabulous range of Dorset’s finest local produce, and ideas for art-inspired special gifts from local artists, including Bruno Charron and David Metcalfe at this year’s festive food and art celebration.  Entry Free.

SAT 6          CHRISTMAS CRAFTS FOR ALL & OPEN DAY, 10.30am – 12.30pm: Crafts, 10am – 4pm: Open Day, Lorton Meadows NR (£2 child/adult).  Get crafty with us & create cards, gifts & treats for your loved ones & your local wildlife; make edible bird treats, minibeast homes & more.  Refreshments provided.   Booking essential, no unaccompanied children.  Plus the Conservation Centre is open for visitors 10am – 4pm.  Come along for a walk around the reserve, then drop in for a hot drink.  Peruse our selection of Christmas cards, calendars, nest boxes, gifts & wildlife books, perfect if you still need to do some Christmas shopping!

SUN 7      EAST DORSET/ARC WORK PARTY, 10am – approx. 2.30pm.  Lend a hand with practical conservation work at Parley Common.  Meet at the Barrack Lane entrance (SZ 094993).  The entrance can be accessed from Christchurch Road; drive past the Golden Acres Nursery & then drive along the road with speed bumps.  For more information, please contact Jon Crewe on 07989 777757.

SUN 7      BROWNSEA ISLAND WORK PARTY, 9.30 am.  Join the regular volunteering group on Brownsea Island on alternate Sundays throughout the year. Tasksinclude pine thinning, opening out the alder carr & rhododendron cutting. For details of boat timings etc contact Richard Proctor on 01202 693039 or 07718 511432. Map ref. SZ 028878. No road access. Public ferries run daily to the island from Sandbanks from 10am March – November, check for details. Also, ferries from Poole Quay & Bournemouth Pier.

MON 8     THE WILDFLOWERS OF BROWNSEA ISLAND, an illustrated talk by Ted Pratt. 2.30pm. Langton Matravers Village Hall.  Visitors welcome.  Isle of Purbeck Group.

MON 8     SOUTH  DORSET MID-WEEK VOLUNTEERS, 10am – 3pm: Habitat management on a DWT nature reserve near you.  Contact warden James Hitchen on 07436 157328 for further details or to book your place.

TUES 9   JOURNEY INTO SPACE, a presentation by Stephen Tonkin from Fordingbridge Astronomers about the mysteries of the night sky.  Weather permitting, there will be opportunities for viewing through an astronomical telescope. 7.30pm, Carter Community School, Blandford Close, Hamworthy, BH15 4BQ.  Poole Group.

SAT 20    WINTER BIRDS OF POOLE HARBOUR, 1 – 3.30pm. TUES 30   HO HOLES WALK, 10am – 2.30pm.  Join the DWT Poole Group for a stroll around Holes Bay & enjoy a chat about the Natural History we encounter on the way to Poole, & grab tea & cake before returning to Upton House.  Please wear suitable clothes, bring binoculars & sense of adventure.  Meet at Upton House Car Park.  Poole Group.
