Detectives investigating the reported sexual assault of a woman in Christchurch have arrested a man.

At around 3.30am on Saturday 27 May 2023 the victim, a woman aged in her 20s, was walking in the area of Barrack Road and Bargates when she came across a man sitting on a bench. It is reported she spoke to the man and was subsequently sexually assaulted.

Detectives can now confirm they have arrested a 30-year-old man from Christchurch. He has been released on bail while enquiries continue.

Detectives investigating the sexual assault of a woman in Christchurch are issuing a CCTV image of a man they would like to identify.

At around 3.30am on Saturday 27 May 2023 the victim, a woman aged in her 20s, was walking in the area of Barrack Road and Bargates when she came across a man sitting on a bench. She spoke to the man and was subsequently sexually assaulted.

The man is described as white, of medium build and with a moustache. He was wearing black clothing and carrying a camouflage rucksack.

Detective Inspector Ben Griffin, of Bournemouth CID, said: “We are continuing to investigate this incident and we have now obtained an image of a man we would like to identify as part of our enquiries.

“I would urge anyone with information regarding his identity to please contact us.

“Officers are continuing to support the victim as we continue to investigate all available lines of enquiry.”
