Poole Town stretched their lead at the top of the Southern League South West Division with a resounding, if not convincing 3-0 win over their Gloucestershire rivals Shortwood Utd. The Dolphins never really got out of second gear in the first half, and yet they still looked the most likely to score, Shortwood offered very little in attack. Poole’s keeper, Nick Hutchings, could have grabbed a cuppa in between the rare Shortwood attacks, however, Poole failed to make the break through with the first half ending 0-0.

The Dolphins came out in the second half with more purpose. The Dolphins slipped effortlessly into third gear and the goals began to flow. 54 minutes gone and, BOOM! Rhys ‘The Welsh Warrior’ Baggridge, crossed with pin point accuracy for Marvellous Marvin Brookes to head home his fourth league goal of the season. Eight minutes later Carl Preston doubled the lead with a sublime finish past the hapless Shortwood keeper. The game was all but over, but it took until eight minutes from time for Poole to land the knockout blow when midfield dynamo Steve Devlin curled one into the top corner. So 3-0 it finished and six points clear at the top of the table, fat too early to order the Champagne just yet, but a good start nonetheless.

Next up, Weymouth in the League cup…… El Jurrasico!
