A significant income generator for the UK economy, Bournemouth’s coastal business community is competing for people’s affections in the run-up to Mother’s Day with a plethora of special offers.

It is estimated that UK consumers will spend around £1.4 billion on Mother’s Day cards, flowers, gifts, dining out, event tickets and services this year. To garner the attention of local residents and visitors to Bournemouth, local businesses are pushing forward a host of special offers and promotions. Creating competition between small and large retailers, plus restaurants and eateries, this is providing people with a wide range of options for treating mums on their day.

Falling on the fourth Sunday of Lent, Mother’s Day is taking place this year on Sunday 11th March. It is expected to bring increased footfall to Bournemouth’s varied coastal districts, including Westbourne, West Cliff, the Seafront, East Cliff, Boscombe, Pokesdown, Southbourne, Tuckton and Hengistbury Head.

Stefan Krause, Bournemouth Coastal BID Manager, said:

“Home to a wide variety of high-street fashion outlets, florists, health and beauty shops, jewellers, cafés, restaurants and eateries, mums and their children are spoiled for choice along Bournemouth’s coast when it comes to celebrating Mother’s Day.

Local businesses are expecting a welcomed boost in profits as more people head out to snap up gifts or take their mums out for a celebratory Lunch, Dinner or Afternoon Tea over Mother’s Day. Last year it was estimated that people in the UK spent approximately £260 million on flowers alone and around £50 million on cards for the occasion.

Stefan Krause, continued:

“We’re helping to spread the word on behalf of coastal businesses about their Mother’s Day offers, highlighting their plans on digital and print, on the Go Bournemouth Coast App and on our Bournemouth Seasons social media platforms. This will deliver extensive benefits to those who are looking for the best and most exciting offers out there!”
