I thought you would be interested to know about the work we at the Prayerhouse and Soul Food are currently doing in the community.

Thanks to our wonderful volunteers, Soul Food is still operating at its usual times, four days a week. We serve ready portioned up food in the form of takeaway boxes, in accordance with the social distancing requirements. Our new friends, Barbara, from the Spar on Preston Road and her staff have been amazing, helping us by preparing delicious meals, meaning we can help more people. She has been recruiting the partnership of her suppliers to help with produce.

Most of the homeless community in Weymouth have been taken into accommodation, but we still find a steady flow of people attending our sessions. In addition, we have widened our scope and are able to offer food to others struggling in the current situation. We are handing out hot meals and donated food at Chapelhay twice a week, serving upwards of 30 each time we visit. This service is open to anyone who feels they need help in this challenging time.

Wendy and the team at Soul Food are also working in partnership with Fair Share, Bincombe Valley School and St John’s School providing food and support for families. We are also regularly dropping off food and other essentials to the vulnerable people known to us.
I have attached some photos of the team in action–we thought it would be great to show the people of Weymouth some photos of the Soul Food van, which they helped us to be able to buy, thus helping the wider community.

I wanted to send this on behalf of the pastor of the Prayerhouse, Paul White, and manager of Soul Food, Wendy Selway and the team, to let the community know what we are doing in the midst of the current crisis, and to invite anyone who would find our services useful to get in touch. More information is available on our website: www.prayerhouse.uk.
