This April Pavilion Dance South West’s (PDSW) has something for everyone, an opportunity to take part in our World’s Parkinson’s Awareness Day, a fun family performance and an exciting live performance.
World’s Parkinson’s Awareness Day at PDSW is on Sunday 17 April, 10am – 5pm. It is a free full day event to raise awareness of the condition and the variety of creative support options available in our community.
2016 will see some exciting development in the work PDSW is doing in the field of Dance for Parkinson’s
disease. PDSW recently announced they have received funding to finance the first year of a three-year
project designed to make Parkinson’s Dance classes available to more people across the South West region. See ‘notes for editors’ for more information on the Parkinson’s Regional Roll Out project and the World’s Parkinson’s Awareness Day schedule.
Also, on Sunday 17 April at 3pm, Windibops by Moxie Brawl comes to PDSW, offering a rib-tickling, inclusive and fun dance theatre experience complete with moving lab tables, fart jars, cows and test tubes. Join Volta Flatulence, Caroline Windybottom and Daisy Parphead in the Windibops laboratory to investigate flatulence (yes, we mean farts), and if it has an impact on global warming.
Finally for April, Speakeasy, a 1920’s-themed dance theatre performance swings into PDSW on Thursday 28 April at 7.30pm. A re-interpretation of the classic tale of Faust, Speakeasy is set in a seemingly normal prohibition bar. Featuring breathtaking projection effects, a unique fusion of world-class breaking combined with Lindy Hop and Charleston, and a soundtrack that combines contemporary legends like Tom Waits and Clint Mansell with swinging big band music of the roaring 20s, Speakeasy taps into the spirit of gangsters, bootleggers, gamblers, flappers, and hepcats of the time.
Speakeasy is a work co-commissioned by PDSW. It is a prototype performance, offering an opportunity to preview this new work and feedback directly to the artists.
April further offers the start of summer classes at PDSW, summer classes start on the Monday 11 April with a full programme of dance and movement classes for all ages and abilities.
