Weymouth & Portland Borough Council has received reports of residents being approached by individuals claiming to be dog wardens.

In one incident a resident was asked to pay a fine to a given phone number.

If a council dog warden issues a fixed penalty, a headed notice will be given to support this or in the absence of that paperwork being available a name and address will be requested and it will be confirmed in writing by letter.  Details of paying any penalty are listed on this notice.

If you have any queries or concerns please contact the borough council on 01305 838000.

Cllr Francis Drake, Weymouth & Portland Borough Council’s Briefholder for Community Safety, said: “Residents should be reminded that all borough council dog wardens will wear council uniform and carry appropriate identification at all times.

“When approached by a dog warden, always ask to see identification.”
If you are approached by someone falsely claiming to be a dog warden, please contact the Police.
