Dorchester’s courthouse museum is offering reduced price entry for everyone in the DT postcode this January.

Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum on High West Street is giving locals a special offer this January – simply show a letter or bill with a DT postcode on and get reduced price entry. All tickets also include an annual pass, so visitors can return to the museum all year for free! (January offer for locals: adult tickets £5 and children’s tickets £2.50. Normally £9.50 and £5 respectively.)

Director Anna Bright said: “We have been overwhelmed by the support from the local community since we opened so we wanted to do something to give back. This museum really is a community hub and we want to encourage more local people to come and join us in 2020. We have so many different events and there’s never a dull moment here. We want to make this a real community space and a place where people want to come back to time and time again and learn more – and now they can for nearly half price!”

Since it has opened, tens of thousands of people have been through the doors to explore the historic courthouse. Children can become court reporters and journey round the cells using interactive iPad technology to discover stories of crime and punishment. Meanwhile adults can explore the lives of those whose fates were decided in the courtroom, from the Tolpuddle Martyrs to Martha Brown, the last woman hanged in Dorset.

The museum hosts regular events including talks, plays, workshops, business networking meetings, event launch parties and gin and rum tastings.

The museum will be closed from Christmas Day until January 2nd, when it will be open for its special January offer. Don’t miss out, for more information visit shirehalldorset.org or call 01305 261849
