Chris Newman Trio: Still Getting Away With It

Chris Newman began to play folk music on guitar at the age of four. In his late teens, he met the great swing guitarist and humourist Diz Disley and performed with him in folk clubs the length and breadth of the UK for a number of years. Through Diz, Chris had the good fortune to play with Stephane Grappelli’s band for a short while and still cites the quartets guitarist Denny Wright as the primary influence on his distinctive and melodic style of improvisation.

Chris Newman’s stunning solo CD ‘Still Getting Away With It’ is a musical autobiography of his 40-year career. His new show, featuring guitars, mandolins and double bass, is a warm and witty invitation into his rich and adventurous musical world, crossing boundaries with consummate ease and exploring genres from English, Scottish, Irish, Swedish, American and Quebecois traditional, to country, ragtime, Latin, African, swing and modern jazz – all the while creating a seamless whole that lifts the heart. Joining Chris in the new trio are Andy Watt (guitar/mandolin) and Dan Rogers (double bass) for an evening guaranteed to put a smile on your face! Don’t miss the opportunity to see this world-class performer as he tours Dorset.
