Following another Christchurch and District Band “For Queen and Country” Remembrance Concert at the Regent Centre 2nd November 2014 – The Christchurch and District Band had the honour of leading the Lymington Remembrance Parade on Sunday 9th November 2014, together with their invited friends; the Farnborough Royal British Legion Corps of Drums the combined bands gave Lymington a parade to remember. Many of the band members are ex-service and it was a fitting tribute.
The Town Clerk Steve Cridland along with the Mayor of Lymington and many dignitaries shook the bands hand saying it was the best parade the town has had for many years and jumped at the chance of booking them again next year.
The Christchurch and District Band had been booked for many months by Lymington Council, after a Veteran approached the band at Burton Veterans Day, Burton Dorset, saying how much he loved the band and was going to recommend them to Lymington Council. A couple of weeks before the parade Philip Palmer, Band Secretary was approached by Steve Powell, Farnborough Royal British Legion Corp of Drums, Drum Major, to see if they had a parade they could join in with. Steve and Philip have known each other many years and were keen to work together again and the rest, as they say, is history.
The two bands blended so well they plan many more events together. Christchurch and District Band are probably the best kept secret in Dorset, rehearsing every Tuesday night in the heart of Christchurch. They always welcome additional brass and woodwind players and are a fun and friendly band.
