A hidden corner of Dorset has become host to one of the country’s most unique Activity and Adventure companies. Cumulus Outdoors, founded by Russell Thompson, specialises in both Activity Based Learning and Performance Coaching for individuals, teams and leaders. Russell, who has worked in sales internationally and within the corporate centre in the UK and the middle East is much in demand for his bespoke training courses. Since its launch two years ago, Cumulus Outdoors has grown extensively, covering all industry sectors across the UK. The Isle of Purbeck is only two and a half hours from London Waterloo, and this location, combined with their top-class expertise, means Cumulus can offer clients a truly memorable experience, making this part of Dorset an attractive proposition for incentive breaks.

 Russell says:

“We are incredibly fortunate to have some of the best of the UK’s Coast and Countryside here, but it’s extraordinary that there is so little awareness of what the area has to offer. The perception is that you need to go a long way from London to truly remote countryside to offer something out of the ordinary, but it’s not necessary. Here in Dorset we offer some of the best adventures available, coasteering being a prime example – and all on a UNESCO World Heritage Coast.” We are getting some great feedback from everyone we host.”

Russell has trained a broad range of nationalities and cultures, even delivering a programme to the Bedouin, whilst training the Mount Sinai Mountain Rescue Team in Egypt. He also worked with the England Badminton Team before the Commonwealth Games where they went on to take Gold. In 2012 he worked in Sweden in –40 degree temperatures where he was honoured to assist Sir Ranulph Fiennes in selecting the team for his last expedition.

Adventure doesn’t have to be so challenging, however, and Cumulus will organise bush craft courses, old fashioned school sports and beach games – all after  classroom sessions or a morning of kayaking.

Russell says:

There is a tremendous buzz here. Following the success of the Olympics further down the coast, we are well placed to continue to expand the range of activities we can offer to our clients. But escaping the Board Room doesn’t have to be an extreme adventure. Our Challenge by Choice Programme means we don’t push anyone beyond their comfort zone. From hill waking to fun urban orienterring, we can give you the chance to bond with your workmates, and also show you a little bit of England’s best kept secret, The Isle of Purbeck.
