Officers investigating a fatal road traffic collision on Portland are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward.

Dorset Police received a report at 6.53am on Monday 15 November 2021 of a collision involving a cyclist and a black Ford Focus on the A354 Portland Beach Road.

The cyclist – a local man aged in his 30s – sustained serious injuries and was very sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed.

The driver of the Ford, a woman aged in her 40s from Portland, has been arrested on suspicion of a driving offence and is currently assisting officers with their enquiries.

The road is currently closed between the Osprey Quay roundabout and the junction with Hamm Beach Road to allow emergency services to deal with the incident.

Police Sergeant Dave Cotterill, of the traffic unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who sadly died.

“We understand the cyclist was involved in a collision with another cyclist shortly before this incident and would urge anyone who witnessed either collision to please come forward.

“I am also appealing to any motorists who were travelling in the area and may have captured anything of relevance on dashcam footage.

“Finally, I would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while the road closure is in place. This is absolutely necessary to allow us to carry out a thorough scene examination.”
