Dorset County Hospital has been ranked as one of the most clinically efficient hospitals in the country.
The ‘Hospital Guide 2012’, produced by health analytics firm Dr Foster, has assessed the efficiency of England’s hospitals for the first time, using 13 separate measures.
Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of six trusts highlighted as the most efficient against indicators such as readmission rates, cancelled operations, follow-up rates and use of day surgery.
Trust Chief Executive Jean O’Callaghan said: “Hospital staff can be very proud of this result. Everyone has been working hard to become more efficient while making improvements to patient care.
“We know we have more work to do to make ongoing savings and keep the Trust on a firm financial footing, but this shows that we are moving in the right direction.”
