FRIDAY 5th October

Back Porch/Blind Lemon Gliders/Robin Bibi Band/Sonny Black/The Jawbreakers/Blues Machine/Riverside Blues Band (Swanage Blues Festival): This is just a selection of the bands playing at venues in and around Swanage on the first day of the Swanage Blues Festival. Lo Numbers (Royal Exchange, Weston, PortlandDT5 2BZ): Wonderfully-performed renditions of the works of Small Faces, The Who, The Specials, The Jam and suchlike.

Amy Mayes Band (Finns, Westham Road, Weymouth DT4 8NU): Funk. Soul and Motown from the lovely Amy and her ace band.

Slipped Disc (Golden Lion, St Edmund Street, Weymouth DT4 8AR):The Who, Whitesnake, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Cream and more.

Tripod(Black Dog, St Mary Street, WeymouthDT4 8PB): Mark Davis fronts this power rock trio.

Neville Staple Band/Guns Of Navarone (Mr Kyps, Parr Street, Ashley Cross, Lower Parkstone, Poole BH14 0JY): Staple is best known as singer, toaster and composer with The Specials and as one of the founding members of Fun Boy 3. Elvis 56 (Edinburgh House of Sounds, St Thomas Street, Weymouth DT4 8EW): Darren delivers those great works from Elvis’s rock’n’roll/blues early years.

Leanne Lady GaGa Warne(Rock Hotel, Abbotsbury Road, Weymouth DT4 0AQ): Such is her devotion to the sight and sound of her heroine, she has changed her name to Lady GaGa.

Mark Stacey (Duke of Cornwall, St Edmund Street, Weymouth DT4 8AS): Acoustically-performed rock and pop.

Sheryl Lee (Kings Arms, Trinity Road, WeymouthDT4 8TJ): Musical fun and games with Sheryl.

Bad Hair Daze(Wyke Regis Working Men’s Club,Portland Road, Wyke Regis, Weymouth DT4 9AB): 80s tribute band.

Jam Session(Lounge Bar, School Street, Weymouth DT4 8NJ): Your chance to take to the stage.

Bill Solo (Wellington Arms, St Alban Street, WeymouthDT4 8PY): Singalong pop fun, with tambourines aplenty.

SATURDAY 6th October

C Sharp Blues/Motel 6/Fabulous Fezzheads/Paint It Blue/Robin Bibi Band/Bare Bones Boogie Band (Swanage Blues Festival): C Sharp, with Johnny Critchard guesting on drums, play at The Anchor in the High Street from 9.45pm. Surfin’ Birds(Sun Inn, King Street, WeymouthDT4 7BH): Have you heard? The bird’s the word. A rare local outing for our rock’n’surf heroes.

The Worried Men (Finns, Westham Road, Weymouth DT4 8NU): Uncompromising, Hi-Energy Rhythm n’ Blues from this Ex-Marshall Amps Endorsee and his rock solid rhythm section.

Andy Grant Trio(Tom Brown’s, High East Street, Dorchester DT1 1HU): Original soul/blues/funk from this cracking trio.

Seckou Keita(Lighthouse, Kingland Road, Poole BH15 1UG): I saw kora master Keita and his band performing in Blandford a couple of years back, and it was a pretty magical experience. Hobo Jones & The Junkyard Dogs (Ropemakers, West Street, Bridport DT6 3QP):
1950s skiffle to Led Zeppelin and The Doors via Johnny Cash and Green Day, Motorhead and The Pussy Cat Dolls, performed with tongues firmly lodged in cheeks.

Nobody’s Heroes(Lord Nelson, Poole QuayBH15 1HJ):Expect covers from The Clash, Gen X, The Ruts, Pistols and more.

One Night Stand (Crown Inn, West Bay Road, BridportDT6 4AX): Blues, pop and rock from this Yeovil-based band.

Tracer (Mr Kyps, Parr Street, Ashley Cross, Lower Parkstone, Poole BH14 0JY): This Australian trio’s sound has echoes of Hendrix and Led Zeppelin, we hear. Virtually Cash/Gringos (Royal Manor Theatre,Fortuneswell, Portland DT5 1LT): 
Possibly VCs last show in Dorset before Kevin and the band move to Nashville. Support comes from Spanish rock’n’roll/rockabilly trio Gringos. Admission is £12.

TiME(Spotted Cow, High Street, Poole BH15 1BW): Phil Murray, Paul Hann and Dave Mein bring you covers from Buddy Holly, The Zombies, The Moody Blues, The Hollies and more.

The Sailor’s Jam Session (Sailor’s Return, Nicholas Street, Weymouth DT4 8AD): Mark Stacey hosts this session, which starts at around 8pm.

Acoustic Afternoon(Queen’s Hotel, King Street, WeymouthDT4 7BJ): A mellow acoustic session here every Sunday from 4pm to 8pm, with PA provided.

Jamie Pinnow’s Open Mic Surgery – The Apple Tree sessions(Apple Tree, Trinity Street, DorchesterDT1 1TT): Jamie will be fielding all requests (well, all the reasonable ones anyway) here every Sunday, from 3pm until 6pm.

Julie Lewis & Simon Rushbrook (Boot Inn, High Street, WeymouthDT4 8JH): Julie’s singularly impressive jazz-orientated piano and vocals are complemented by Simon Rushbrook’s double bass.
