FRIDAY 14th September

Hank Wangford and the Lost Cowboys (Bridport Arts Centre, South Street, Bridport DT6 3NR): It’s Hat Festival time in Bridport and Hank Wangford, a patron of the Festival, opens the festivities here. Backed by the stellar Lost Cowboys (featuring BJ Cole on pedal steel, Richard Allen on guitar and vocalist Anna Robinson), Hank will be presenting a shifting panorama of headwear and country music, heartbreakers and toe tappers. Join the varyingly-bonneted High Priest of Pain for a traditional Dorset ‘Glimpse of Gloom’ and sing along to the Bridport Hat Festival Waltz. Amy Mayes Band (Cornwall Hotel,Alexandra Road, Dorchester, Dorset, DT1 2LZ): Soul, funk and Motown from Amy and her excellent band.

Skint Imperials (Golden Lion, St Edmund Street, WeymouthDT4 8AR):Three-part harmony-enriched renditions of the works of Stevie Wonder, Snow Patrol, The Animals, Three Dog Night and more.

Reactor (Finns, Westham Road, Weymouth DT4 8NU):Kings of Leon to Killers, Foo Fighters to TheSex Pistols.

Shooter (Royal Exchange, Weston, PortlandDT5 2BZ):The Fratellis, Arctic Monkeys, James, Stereophonics and more.

Nobody’s Heroes (Plume of Feathers, Half Moon Street, Sherborne DT9 3LN): Pure punk at the Plume.

Jeff & Vida (Square & Compass, Worth Matravers, near Swanage, Dorset BH19 3LF): Acoustic bluegrass and rockabilly from this Nashville/New Orleans-based act. More here: www.jeffandvida.com

Hi Voltage (Finns, Westham Road, Weymouth DT4 8NU):A welcome return for one of the best cover bands in the South. Rock, metal and punk classics.

Danny & The Goosemen (Edinburgh House of Sounds, St Thomas Street, Weymouth DT4 8EW): Our musical impresario if joined by his flock.

Mojo (King’s Head, St. Andrews Road,Bradpole,nearBridport DT6 3DS): Blues and rock from Tony’s splendid trio.

Pronghorn (Ropemakers, West Street, Bridport DT6 3QP): A more motley collection of bad shirts, prison tattoos, greasy comb-overs, mullets and broken teeth you’d be hard pushed to find outside of a Dale Winton home video. The Tatsmiths (Ropemakers, West Street, Bridport DT6 3QP): exploded onto the folk roots scene in 2009 and haven’t looked back. The band is already firmly established on the festival circuit with their blend of fresh pop/punky/gypsy music. Lightning Willie & The Poorboys (The Barn at the Square and Compass, Windmill Hill, Nr Ilminster, Somerset TA19 9NX): One of the very best Texas Rockabilly blues/roots/rock outfits return to Somerset. Jessica Hoop/Douglas Dare (Electric Palace, South Street, Bridport DT6 3NY): A sensual, esoteric singer/songwriter whose odd, sparse songs nod to influences like Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell and Vashti Bunyan. Jazz at the Compasses (Three Compasses, Charminster DT2 9QT): The house band begin proceedings, after which jazz musos and singers are invited to join in with the fun.

Stan’s Acoustic Jam (Seven’s Boatshed, Poole Park BH15 2SF).

Matt Tarling and friends(Blue Raddle, Church Street, DorchesterDT1 1JN): This Irish tune session takes place here on the third Wednesday of the month.

Chloe & Tom (Lazy Lizard, Esplanade, Weymouth DT4 8DG): Contemporary pop and rock from Chloe Whistance (vocals, percussion) and Tom Huntingdon, here from 10pm every Wednesday.

Tom Caulfield (Boho Bar, St Thomas Street, WeymouthDT4 8EQ): Gritty, blues-infected original material covers from Tom. You can catch him here every Wednesday night.

Buddy Holly & The Cricketers (Electric Palace, South Street, BridportDT6 3NY):Buddy Holly’s hugely-influential pop gems are augmented with the works of Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Eddie Cochran, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, The Everly Brothers, Little Richard and The Beatles.
