FRIDAY 15thMarch

The Dolmen/Saor Patrol (John Gregory, Radipole Lane, Weymouth DT4 9SS): Our own mystical Celtic rock troubadours are joined by Scottish stable mates Saor Patrol as part of their God of the Sun tour.

Custer’s Last Blues Band/C Sharp Blues/Fat Marrow Blues Band (Freshwater Entertainment Centre, Burton Bradstock near Bridport DT6 4PT): The second Bridport Lions Blues Extravaganza is upon us, following on the success of last year’s event here. Profits will be shared between Bridport EDP and the Julia’s House charities, and tickets are available at £10 in advance from EDP’s Bridport office on 01308 427195, the Weymouth EDP office (01305 760799), from Bridport TIC in South Street, Bridport (01308 424901), the Julia’s House shop in West Street, Bridport (01308 456612) or Bridport Music in South Street (01308 425707), or £12 on the door if available. Flybone Yellow (Finns, Westham Road, Weymouth DT4 8NU): White Stripes, Feeder, Foo Fighters, Nirvana and more from this mighty trio.

The Jack Ratts (Lugger Inn, West Street, Chickerell, Weymouth, DT3 4DY): This contemporary folk band claim to hail from the smugglers coves of Dorset. I’m told that they will be regaling you with tales of sea monsters, sinking ships, undead pirates and hidden treasures, armed with an arsenal of rusty banjos, piercing mandolins, creepy fiddles and dusty old accordions.

Stereoironics (Golden Lion, St Edmund Street, Weymouth DT4 8AR): A tribute to the works of Cwmaman’s favourite musical export.

Chill (Royal Exchange, Weston, Portland DT5 2BZ): Contemporary and classic rock covers.

Hazel O’Connor (Mr Kyps, Parr Street, Ashley Cross, Lower Parkstone, Poole BH14 0JY): The return of the pop diva that came to prominence in the 80s with hits such as ‘Will You?’ Doors open at 8pm; admission is £15 in advance or £18 on the door. Sheryl Lee (Edinburgh House of Sounds, St Thomas Street, Weymouth DT4 8EW): Musical fun and games with Sheryl.

Mojito (Enzee’s Italian Restaurant, Westover Road, Bournemouth BH1 2BZ): Jazz and pop from this sax/vocals duo, here every Friday from 6.30pm.

Bill Solo (Wellington Arms, St Alban Street, Weymouth DT4 8PY): Audience-participation-friendly pop and rock covers from Bill.

SATURDAY 16thMarch

Gothic Chicken/The Dutch Solo Mouses (Club V6, 6 King Street, Weymouth DT4 7BH): It’s Stewart Osborne’s Significant Birthday bash, and we’re treated to not only a rare appearance from the fabulous fowls but also the début appearance of Smudge Smith’s mighty Mouses. Irresisitible.

Iron-On Maiden (Finns, Westham Road, Weymouth DT4 8NU): This band claim the title of the finest Iron Maiden tribute in the land. You are invited to run to the hills to see the evil that men do. Admission is £6 tonight.

Freak Circus (Lugger Inn, West Street, Chickerell, Weymouth, DT3 4DY): Power-punk pop originals and covers. You can also expect the odd surf guitar rendition of cult TV themes.

Danny Adams (Lazy Lizard, Esplanade, Weymouth DT4 8DG): Danny’s first solo gig of the year starts here at 11.30pm.

SUNDAY 17thMarch

Sheila Casey Memorial Concert (Mr Kyps, Parr Street, Ashley Cross, Lower Parkstone, Poole BH14 0JY): With her sister Jeanette, Sheila Casey first came to prominence in the 60s with the McKinlay Sisters, regular performers on the hugely-popular and pioneering TV show Ready Steady Go. They toured with and befriended The Beatles on their first UK tour, and Sheila went on to work with The Rolling Stones, Donovan, The Hollies and Paice Ashton & Lord. I had the pleasure of working with Sheila and her husband Howie Casey as part of the Barrelhouse Blues Orchestra, and I can tell you that we’ve lost a great vocal talent and a lovely, warm and compassionate woman. Charley Says (The Greyhound, The Square  Beaminster DT8 3AW): You are invited to celebrate St Patrick’s Day with Charley Says, who will be playing a selection of Irish songs as well as their usual mix of the familiar, favourite or forgotten. Guilty pleasures indeed.

Jamie Pinnow’s Open Mic Surgery – The Apple Tree sessions (Apple Tree, Trinity Street, Dorchester DT1 1TT): Jamie will be fielding all requests here every Sunday, from 3pm until 6pm.

Solid Gold Duo (Central Hotel, Esplanade, Weymouth DT4 8EB): Pop covers from this duo, here every Sunday night.

MONDAY 18thMarch

FNUK (Beacon Hotel, Beacon Road, Bournemouth BH2 5DB): A weekly funk session featuring some serious jazz/funk heavyweights in Ian Ellis (sax), Gianni Chiarello (guitar), Pat Davey (bass) and Dave Mayne (drums). Music from 8.30pm; free admission.

Sunset Café Stompers (Ropemakers, West Street, Bridport DT6 3QP): Authentic 1920s-style New Orleans jazz.

Open Mic Night (Boot Inn, High Street, Weymouth DT4 8JH).

Mr Bucket (Lazy Lizard, Esplanade, Weymouth DT4 8DG): Toby and Phil are here every Monday night.

Michael Roberts (Hotel Mon Ami, Esplanade, Weymouth DT4 7NN): Saxophones, flute, harmonica and vocals from Michael, here every Monday night.

Pete Howell (Russell Hotel, Esplanade, Weymouth DT4 7NG): A singalong with Pete and his accordion here every Monday night.

TUESDAY 19th March Julie Lewis’s Odd Tuesdays (Oasis Bistro, Trinity Road, Weymouth DT4 8TJ): Jazz chanteuse and pianist par excellenceJulie hosts this session, which takes place here on every odd-number-dated Tuesday of the month. The venue is what used to be Perry’s restaurant, and is not to be confused with the café on the beach at Overcombe.

Sam Green (Boot Inn, High Street, Weymouth DT4 8JH): We are promised great tunes and amazing slide guitar from this Exmouth-based musician.

Acoustically Acclaimed (Lazy Lizard, Esplanade, Weymouth DT4 8DG): Tom Morris hosts this weekly acoustic jam session. Music from 10pm.

Tom Caulfield (Boho Bar, St Thomas Street, Weymouth DT4 8EQ): Gritty, blues-infected original material covers from Tom. You can catch him here every Wednesday night.

Swamp Donkey (Bay Theatre, Weymouth College, Cranford Avenue, Weymouth DT4 7LQ): Students of Weymouth College’s music and performing arts courses present the fruits of their learnings. Ten bands, MCs, DJs and more, all for a mere £5 (£3 concessions). Music from 7.30pm.

Broadband (Royal Portland Arms, Fortuneswell, Portland DT5 1LZ): Blues and beyond from Tim Broad and buddies.

Amy Mayes Band (Finns, Westham Road, Weymouth DT4 8NU).

The Mighty Fine (Royal Exchange, Weston, Portland DT5 2BZ): We expect a dance floor and a mirror ball to be installed as TMF give you funky lumps of Chic, Sister Sledge, Jamiroquai, Shalamar, Michael Jackson and more.
