FRIDAY 28th September

People Under The Stairs (Electric Palace, South Street, Bridport DT6 3NY): Los Angeles-based People Under The Stairs, otherwise known as Double K (Michael Turner) and Thes One (Christopher Portugal) are hailed as the most successful fully-independent hip-hop duo in the history of the genre. Their career includes an appearance on The Simpson’s 20th Anniversary Special, a John Peel Session at Abbey Road and groundbreaking performances at key festivals such as Glastonbury, Coachella and Bonaroo, the last of which was noted by SPIN magazine as “Simply the best performance of Friday… Period”. The Ashirra/Despite My Deepest Fear/Saint[the]Sinner/Sincerity/Kill The Conversation/Perdisian/Buried At Sea (Quicksilver Mail, Hendford Hill, Yeovil, Somerset BA20 2RG):This will be The Ashirra’s last-ever show, and the impressive line-up of support acts includes London metalcore act DMDF. Seckou Keita (Bridport Arts Centre, South Street, Bridport DT6 3NR): Respecting a musical tradition that stretches back to the 13th Century and the Mandinka Empire of West Africa, Seckou is an established contemporary master of the Kora, the 21-stringed African harp. While his feet are firmly rooted in the 21st Century his heritage is clear. His new album Miro represents a return to original influences from his childhood in Sengal.
