The BSO’s popular Schools’ Concerts are back for another year with the exciting new theme of ‘Secrets and Codes’. As part of the BSO’s Blast programme, these interactive concerts will introduce classical music and the orchestra to Key Stage 2 children in the most immersive and imaginative way, featuring mystical music written especially for the concert by the award-winning composer and presenter James Redwood. Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra would like to invite all Key Stage 2 classes to join the fun through the live stream of the fully booked concert in Poole on Wednesday 24 May, 1.30 – 2.30pm, enabling schools who either did not secure tickets or are too far away to travel to Poole to still experience the thrill of an orchestra as they perform live.

The concert embraces three participatory pieces including the Secrets and Codes song with accompanying Makaton signing, a body-percussion piece based on Morse Code and a pitch game based on 4-letter notes. A plethora of free learning resources and video tutorials on the BSO website will help classes prepare for the concert, giving schoolchildren the chance to fully immerse themselves and discover a world of classical music. In addition to the participatory pieces, the concert will introduce children to works by Shostakovich, Williams, Holst, Bartók, Elgar and Wagner, inspiring a life-long passion for music. For our online audience, there will be a live Q&A session following the concert where James and conductor Victor Aviat will answer questions about the music.
