Helen Harrison, the partner of former Conservative MP Peter Bone, has been chosen as the Conservative candidate for the upcoming Wellingborough by-election. As a Conservative councillor in Wellingborough’s North Northamptonshire area, Harrison’s selection was confirmed by party chair Richard Holden on Sunday.

The by-election was triggered after Peter Bone faced parliamentary scrutiny for alleged bullying and sexual misconduct toward a staff member. Despite denying these allegations, Bone had his parliamentary whip suspended, leading him to serve as an independent MP rather than a Conservative one.

Although he continues to campaign alongside the Conservative Party despite his suspension, Bone’s constituents voted to recall him through a petition. Consequently, a by-election will take place, but the date remains unconfirmed. Bone is eligible to stand in the election, though it’s uncertain if he will choose to do so.
