Commenting on the appointment of Ed Miliband MP as Shadow Secretary of State for Shadow Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, a Labour for a Green New Deal spokesperson said:

“Ed was an early backer of the Green New Deal, hosting our Parliamentary launch and has long spoken of the need to combine economic and climate justice. We look forward to working with him to further develop Labour’s ground-breaking Green New Deal agenda.” Miliband is the Chair of the IPPR’s Environmental Climate Justice Commission and a former Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change. He hosted the Parliamentary launch of the Labour for a Green New Deal campaign in July 2019.

Commenting on the new Shadow Cabinet, the spokesperson continued: “As the new shadow cabinet comes together, we must remember that there is no mandate to weaken Labour’s transformative policies. Labour members overwhelmingly support the policies of the 2019 manifesto, from nationalising the energy grid to providing free broadband as a human right. With escalating public health and climate crises, these commitments to public ownership and universal services are more vital, popular and timely than ever.
