Local Labour campaigners were in the town centre on Saturday 9th January 2016 ahead of the deadline to comment on the Prison site development proposals.  In under two hours, they collected over 70 letters of support objecting to planning proposals,   proposals which clearly do not include any affordable housing.  Labour, and clearly many, many local residents are concerned  about these plans and want to ensure the public are fully aware of what is being proposed for our town and of their right to object to them.

Claudia Sorin of Labour said “At our recent public meeting, we were delighted to hear Cllr Yarker speak so fervently in favour of 35% affordable housing.  We in the Labour party are trying to support his view and ensure that the council’s own policy, requiring this level of affordable housing, is fully adhered to.”

Labour are encouraging the public to look at the plans on the ‘Dorsetfoyou’ website (ref WD/D/15/002840) and object to them as they stand if they believe the developers should include their fair share of affordable housing, ie 35%.

Andy Stillman said “It is crucial that we raise public awareness over this issue as this was publically owned land and  Dorchester is desperately short of affordable housing.  We really need to highlight the urgency of responding before the 16th January deadline.”
