Local residents challenged to get creative for Boscombe arts competition

Local residents and visitors to Boscombe are invited to show off their artistic flair and contribute to the 2015 Boscombe Regeneration Partnership calendar, by creating paintings and drawings that illustrate this year’s theme a ‘Celebration of Boscombe.’

Whether it is a wintery water colour of Boscombe seafront, or a sketch of the hustle and bustle of the weekly market, all styles of artwork is welcome – the only requirement is it shows a connection to Boscombe.

The competition, which is open to amateur artists of all ages, runs until Sunday 23 November and is in support of the Boscombe Regeneration Partnership’s Backing Boscombe campaign to improve the area as a place to live, work and visit. There will be two categories: Under 18s and over 18s, with a prize of £100 worth of high street vouchers awarded to each winner.

Councillor Jane Kelly, Cabinet Member for Partnerships and Regeneration said: “This competition is a fantastic opportunity for local people of all ages to not only get their work showcased in the 2015 calendar, but also create some artwork that celebrates all that the area has to offer.”

“Boscombe is home to a diverse and artistic community, and has so much to be inspired by, from its award winning gardens and beautiful architecture, to its historic pier and beach. We hope that the project will help to positively raise the profile of Boscombe, and the exciting work that is taking place to improve the area. One project currently underway is to improve the layout of the precinct. By installing new benches and cycle racks, and planting fresh trees we hope to improve the look of the high street, as well as making the area more accessible.”

To enter, residents can email their piece in JPEG format to [email protected] or send hard copies toBoscombe Regeneration, Unit 1, 8 Roumelia Lane, Boscombe, BH5 1EU
