A man has been charged and is due to appear in court in connection with a fatal road traffic collision in Weymouth.

Dorset Police was called to a report of a collision involving a Mercedes Sprinter van and a pedestrian in Wooland Gardens at 12.49pm on Tuesday 2 May 2023.

Emergency services attended and very sadly the pedestrian – a local woman aged in her 90s – was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 40-year-old man from Southampton was arrested in connection with the incident. Following detailed enquiries by the Serious Collision Investigation Team, he has now been charged with causing death by driving without due care and consideration while over the specified limit for a controlled drug. He is due to appear at Weymouth Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 3 January 2024.
