A man has been handed a 20-month jail term after he sexually abused two women as they performed a human pyramid at Bournemouth Rugby 7s Festival event.
Alan Bafli, 34 and of Rainham Road South in Dagenham, Essex, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday 26 July 2019 after pleading guilty at a previous hearing to assault by penetration and sexual assault.
He was also placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.
The offences occurred at around 11.30pm on Saturday 25 May 2019 at the sporting event at Chapel Gate near Christchurch.
The victims, aged in their 30s, were among a group of eight woman who decided to try and create a human pyramid.
As they attempted the move, one of the victims asked a man who was stood nearby to help her. As he did, the victim was sexually assaulted.
The second victim was also sexually assaulted as she climbed down from the pyramid.
She challenged the man before raising the alarm with a security guard. She had lost sight of the man but was later approached by a member of security who had apprehended Bafli.
One of the assaults was witnessed by two women who were nearby at the time.
Detective Constable Rob Ellis, of the Serious Sexual Offences team, said: “Alan Bafli deliberately targeted his victims in front of a large number of people. I hope the sentence handed out today will bring them some closure.
“Dorset Police takes theses offences extremely seriously and we have a dedicated team of officers who will investigate every line of enquiry to identify offenders and bring them before the court.”
