Breaking News:

The leader of Burnley Council and ten other councillors have resigned from the Labour Party. They took this step in response to Sir Keir Starmer’s decision not to advocate for a ceasefire in Gaza. Afrasiab Anwar, who has been a member of the party for a decade, was one of those who had called for the leader’s resignation.

In a statement, they expressed their disappointment, stating that it has become evident that Keir Starmer and the party leadership either cannot or will not address their concerns or recognise the sentiments within their communities. They also mentioned that when they called for his resignation, he responded by indicating that individual member concerns are not his priority, underscoring a lack of value for grassroots party voices.

This follows on from multiple threats by councillors across the country in October
