This Saturday, 23rd March Bournemouth Conservatives are holding an open meeting, starting at 1.30pm at the Royal Bath Hotel, Bath Road, Bournemouth BH1 2EW to discuss the proposed off shore wind farm ‘Navitus Bay’.

They have made their views clear in the tone of the publicity leaflet and with the invited speakers being limited to those against the proposal. The leaflet refers to the scheme details as ‘sketchy’ despite detailed publications and presentations having been made throughout the area by the developers, they talk of the effects on “homes and neighbourhoods” of a development some 12 miles out to sea and desribe the anti wind-farm campaign group Challenge Navitius’ web site as a “must visit” site.

To date the debate has been almost entirely one sided. Little space has been given to those in favour and while the developers have been allowed brief responses to some of the ridiculous challenges made they are typically tied to the technical aspects of the development and the constraints of the planning process. There has been no room for any real debate on the potential catastrophic consequences of man made climate change, the economic benefits and employment potential from clean energy or even for answering some of the clearly inaccurate statements made by the anti lobby.

If anyone feels strongly that this development needs to be assessed on its real potential to supply a massive proportion of Dorset’s energy, dramatically reduce carbon emmisions and be approved (or otherwise) on appropriate planning constraints (not mob hysteria) your views would be very welcome at the meeting and/or via [email protected] or on line at www.NavitusBay.Com
