North Quay Harbourside Improvements Will Start Next Month

The next stage in Dorset Council’s commitment to improving and enhancing Weymouth’s harbourside will start on 3 November.

The changes will increase the space available for pedestrians to enjoy the harbourside. It will also enhance the setting of the North Quay development site, making it more attractive to investors.

The 20-week programme for the improvements will start on 3 November. They are due to finish in April 2026.

During this time there will be a lane closure that will only allow traffic from the ASDA junction towards the town bridge or Trinity Road. Access to North Quay car park will not change, but when leaving the car park there will not be the option to turn left.

This change in traffic will also affect bus services. Check with the bus operator for individual service changes.

Cllr Jon Andrews, Dorset Council’s Cabinet Member for Place Services said:

“We are building on the success of the Custom House Quay improvements to make walking and spending time around the harbourside as pleasant as possible.

“These improvements are part of a much larger plan to reinvigorate Weymouth.

“The closure of one lane will mean that people may be inconvenienced either driving or using buses, so I ask that you double check for any changes to your routine during this time.”

This scheme will be funded by the Local Transport Plan with a contribution from the Government funding awarded to Dorset Council to regenerate Weymouth’s Waterside Economy in 2023.
