Bournemouth Borough Councillor Rey and The Grove, a unique hotel for those with cancer, are hosting a family fun day, Sunday 16 July, to raise funds for a new hotel minibus

Run by a local Christchurch-based charity, Macmillan Caring Locally, The Grove Hotel in Bournemouth is the only hotel of its kind, providing a welcome retreat for those with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. Providing many free services, including a beach hut, the hotel strives to ensure its guests, for whom many it may be their last holiday, are able to make fantastic lasting memories with their loved ones.

One such service the not-for-profit hotel has provided its guests is a free mini-bus service, enabling their guests to travel to many of Dorset’s most-loved tourist attractions for free. However, after many years of good use, The Grove’s current minibus is no longer road-worthy. For the last year, the hotel has been trying to raise funds for a new minibus to help those who need it most make unforgettable memories.

Organised by Bournemouth Borough Councillor, Cllr Anne Rey, her husband John Kidner, and friend Debbie Snooks, The Grove will be hosting a family fun day in the hopes of boosting their fundraising efforts. Taking place on Sunday 16th July, from 11 am to 3 pm, the event will include meet & greets with Olaf from Disney’s Frozen and the popular Minions characters. There will also be a leading Jack Sparrow impersonator accompanied by a crew of pirates whilst local dance troupe Shokkwaves will be providing electrifying entertainment.

Brenden Howard, General Manager of The Grove, said:

“We’d like to thank the Councillor for organising this day. It’s going to be a great event with entertainment suitable for all the family.

“Our minibus service provides an ideal way for our guests, who may struggle otherwise, to get out and explore Dorset and The New Forest for free. However, our current minibus is truly on its last legs! Fingers crossed this event will help us towards getting a new one.”

Dorset Youth Choir, Vocal Impact, will also be performing whilst Dorset Fire & Rescue will be giving demonstrations throughout the day. Furthermore, there will be stalls from many local traders plus The Grove Hotel will be offering cream teas to anyone who is peckish too.

Cllr Anne Rey said:

“The Grove provides an extremely valuable service, giving people with illnesses the chance to visit our beautiful holiday destination with the peace of mind that they are on hand to help should anything happen with their illness.

We hope lots of people attend the fun day and assist us in raising funds for this wonderful not-for-profit hotel.”

Free to attend, all proceeds from the event will be donated to The Grove. The ‘family bonanza’ takes place on 16 July 2017, 11 am – 3 pm, at The Grove, 2 Grove Road, East Cliff, Bournemouth, BH1 3AU.
