Detectives are appealing for anyone with information to come forward as they investigate a knifepoint robbery in Weymouth and are issuing a CCTV image of the suspect.

Dorset Police received a report at 1.45pm on Friday 19 April 2024 that a man threatened a staff member and demanded money from the till, as well as other stock items, at Macey’s Newsagents in Abbotsbury Road.

It was reported that the man was in possession of a knife.

Officers attended the scene and conducted searches in the area, assisted by the NPAS helicopter, but the offender has not been located and detectives are continuing to explore a number of lines of enquiry to identify the man involved.

There were no reports of any injuries.

Detective Inspector Rhys Griffiths, of Dorset County CID, said: “This must have been a very distressing incident for the staff member involved and I appreciate reports of this nature may also cause concern to the wider community in the area.

“I want to reassure members of the public that we are carrying out a detailed investigation into this robbery and we are exploring a number of active lines of enquiry.

“There will be an increased policing presence in the vicinity and officers can be approached by residents with any information or concerns.

“I am also releasing a CCTV image of the suspect in the hope that it may jog someone’s memory, or somebody may recognise him from the clothing he is wearing.

“I would urge anyone with information about this man’s identity to please contact Dorset Police.

“We are also keen to hear from any witnesses who have not already spoken to us as well as anyone who may have capture relevant home CCTV, doorbell camera or dashcam footage from around the time of the incident.”
