Recently I was phoned by an 86 year old lady – we’d never met – she wanted to tell me about her husband. He passed away 18 months ago. He was nursed at the end of his life in Portland Hospital. She cried as she told me how grateful she was to see him every day, after a long marriage, in the last months of his life. She has no car, and couldn’t have managed two bus journeys both ways to Weymouth every day. She thought of people in the future who would not have this privilege. The staff were wonderful. One of the reasons we fight for our Community Beds.
