The Metropolitan Police has said it is investigating after comments were made about doctors and nurses being “hung” after the Nuremberg Trials at an anti-lockdown and anti-vaccination protest in London.

At the rally in Trafalgar Square on Saturday, former nurse Kate Shemirani asked for details of NHS doctors and nurses who worked during the pandemic to be collected and sent to her.

She then said: “At the Nuremberg Trials, the doctors and nurses stood trial and they hung.
“If you are a doctor or a nurse, now is the time to get off that bus.
“Get off it and stand with us, the people, all around the world they are rising.”

The Met said in a statement given to Sky News: “We are aware of video circulating online showing a speech that occurred during a rally in Trafalgar Square.
“Officers are carrying out inquiries to establish whether any offences have been committed.
“No arrests have been made.”

Ms Shemirani was struck off by the Nursing and Midwifery Council last month for spreading misinformation about coronavirus.
She has previously called vaccination teams “death squads” and referred to the NHS as the “new Auschwitz”.
She had her Twitter account suspended late last year.

Her comments on Saturday, which came in the week when most lockdown restrictions were lifted in England, prompted emotional messages of condemnation from NHS staff and executives across the country.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan tweeted: “This is utterly appalling, and I have raised it directly with the Met Police. Our NHS staff are the heroes of this pandemic and Londoners from across this city roundly reject this hate.”
In an interview with the BBC in October, her son Sebastian Shemirani said his mother was someone “with a massive amount of self-interest” who “loves being the centre of attention”.

Mr Shemirani said what she was doing online and at rallies was “dangerous” and a threat to public health. He said he no longer has a relationship with his mother because of her beliefs in conspiracy theories.

The Nuremberg Trials took place after World War Two when prominent members of the Nazi regime were prosecuted for their role in the Holocaust and other war crimes.

For so many to be putting their faith in Hatie Hopkins, Laurence Fox and Piers Corbyn suggests a level of psychosis currently infecting a significant swathe. If one does not trust the vaccine that is up to them but at least prove it scientifically and not via populist fakery.
