Summer has arrived at Dorset Wildlife Trust’s (DWT’s) Kingcombe Centre in west Dorset with a line-up of activities and events planned for a weekend of summer fun from Friday 22nd– Sunday 24th July.

On Sunday 24th July, ‘*The Kingcombes’ Travelling Show’, an outdoor family show will be telling the secrets of Kingcombe through a contemporary performance featuring storytelling, puppetry, music and dance.  There will be three showings at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Meet at the Kingcombe Centre to enjoy this free performance, and learn about nature all in the delightful location of our wildflower meadows with stunning countryside views.

The Field Days exhibition, which displays art work inspired by the South Coast Ridgeway will also be coming to the Kingcombe Centre from Friday 22nd July until Sunday 24th July, from 11am until 4.30pm. The exhibition features commissioned works from local and national artists, inspired by the archaeology, ecology, geology and ancient myths and legends of the Ridgeway, a ridge of chalky downland from Broadmayne in the east of Dorset to Kingston Russell in west Dorset.

As part of the Field Days exhibition tour, there will also be a tin and copper smelting workshop on Saturday 23rd July and Sunday 24th July from 11am – 4.30pm. The workshops will be led by Dr Simon Timberlake from the University of Cambridge and will provide a practical introduction to the craft, allowing students to build and operate smelting hearths and then use these to produce copper and tin. On Saturday 23rdJuly, the Kingcombe Centre will be holding ‘Tasty Tales on the Trail’ an evening with local professional story teller, Martin Maudsley.  Martin will entertain visitors with stories, poetry and songs whilst out walking through the landscape, and then back at the centre, interspersing his tales during a supper of freshly prepared locally sourced food.
