Super Huts Success and Plans for Overnight Stay Huts Launched

Eighteen new super-sized beach huts have been completed and sold along Bournemouth’s seafront as a forerunner to Bournemouth Borough Council’s plans for the development of the first ever overnight stay beach huts for holiday hire in Bournemouth.

As part of the first phase of the Council’s Seafront Strategy, eighteen new ‘super huts’ have been built and sold in a highly sought-after location at Alum Chine. At 4.3m x 2.3m, the super huts are larger than traditional beach huts and proved extremely popular with deposits taken on all eighteen within three weeks of being offered for sale.

Councillor Lawrence Williams, Cabinet Member for Tourism, Leisure & Culture, said: “We are very pleased with the success of the super huts scheme in Alum Chine. It is the first project we have delivered as part of phase one of our Seafront Strategy.”

The next proposed project of overnight stay beach huts will be built at Southbournesubject to securing planning consent. This innovative development will give holiday-makers an opportunity to stay right on the doorstep of a Blue Flag beach.

Councillor Williams continued:“The overnight stay beach huts are an exciting new venture which will create tourism opportunities, attract investment and raise the profile of Southbourne as a destination on the south coast. This new holiday accommodation will beperfect for those who are eager to stay at a stunning seafront base where they will discover golden beaches and the delights of Southbourne.”

Built locally in the New Forest by a company with a proven track record of delivering outstanding beach huts, the bespoke beach huts will be available for visitors to hire as holiday lets all year round.

Each beach hut will offer high-quality self-catering accommodation for up to six people complete with full-width french doors opening onto a private decking area overlooking the promenade and the Blue Flag beach at Southbourne. The overnight stay beach huts will be the first in Bournemouth to boast of an internal shower, a toilet and a kitchen unit with an electric hob, fridge and microwave.  The huts will also have access to wifi and a dedicated parking space.  One of the huts also offers adapted accessible features.

Work to build the huts is planned to begin late Autumn 2014 and complete by Spring 2015.
