The crowds gathered on Bournemouth Pier and on the beach and waited with great expectation and anticipation, with cameras pointed, in a bid to capture two superheroes descending from the brand new Bournemouth Zip Wire Tower.

Spiderman and Superwoman made their descent from the newly launched Zip Wire on Bournemouth Pier.  The World’s first Pier to Shore Zipline features a 250 metre dual zip wire over 80 feet above the sea.  Launching from the Zip Tower on the end of the Pier thrill-seekers can race out and “zip surf” over the top of the waves to land on the beach.

Spiderman enthused, “I’ve had many exciting descents, including the Empire State Building, but the Bournemouth Zip Wire has to be one of the best. It was fast, furious and fun!”

In the year that marks the 200th anniversary of British Piers, Bournemouth Pier is keeping pace of the times and thriving.  Directors of Openwide International Ltd, Steve Cutbush and Rory Holburn, operate the Pier on a 20 year lease from the council. The Company has cleverly reinvented the use of the Pier to include the new Zip Wire and has also transformed the old Pier theatre in to an all-weather indoor climbing attraction, RockReef, which promises to both thrill and challenge with its 25 unique climbing challenges and HighLine.

Steve Cutbush said, “We are delighted to see so many people reacting so positively to this new attraction. There is a real buzz around and it’s certainly getting people talking. We open to the public this weekend and bookings are going extremely well!”

Jon Weaver, Head of Resort Marketing and Events said, “This iconic pier is an incredibly important part of Bournemouth’s heritage.  It is so good to see it being rejuvenated into a major tourist attraction for the town – a wonderful way for people to see Bournemouth at its best as they zip down.”

Rory Holburn added, “Bournemouth Pier is an excellent example of how the great British seaside experience can keep pace with the times, with investment and good management, and can provide future generations with the same amount of delight and pleasure that Piers have been giving the British holidaymaker for 200 years now. We are looking to secure the future of Bournemouth Pier for the next two centuries!”
