when you can. Without you we are nothing.

Thank you.

Here are just some of the wonderful people who read us and contribute with absolutely no prompting from us.

Dr Andy Mayers

‘Hello this is me, Doug, generally considered to be an “ok sort of chap” with strong views about some things, other things I try not to let bother me!

Very keen (obsessive) photographer, lover of nature, the countryside, the landscape and things that live in it or did millions of years ago, too

I live on the outskirts of Bridport in West Dorset and just love it here. Have been here for 20 years and am well known locally for my annual Colmer’s Hill Calendar, which is in its 6th year now, and hopefully will go on for a few years yet! It has become a bit of an obsession and gets me out and about, which is just what a 73 year old needs to be doing!

I see my job as an admin here on Dorset Eye and a peace-keeper, hoping to keep everyone respectful of others, but also a place where I can express my views about topical matters from time to time, as most members should feel able to do without wishing to cause offense to anyone else.

I also post photographs here occasionally, just to break the monotony of the ever present political news and views, and to make people look at the beauty we have around us here in Dorset!’

As someone who regularly organises community and campaign events and is involved in the local political and election scene it is a real bonus to have access to a news outlet like the Dorset Eye. This is an open channel where we can share information and ideas and promote events and issues without the heavy hand of a news editor altering the message.

It’s particularly important on issues that the main stream media either won’t touch with a barge pole or if they do that pole is usually already sticky with their own spin on things. Take the issue of indefinite immigration detention. Many folks, even reasonably enlightened folks are unaware about the way we are treating “Johnny Foreigner”. Locking people up, the majority of whom have committed no criminal offence, keeping them detained in prison-like conditions for weeks, months, even years whilst seemingly random decisions about their immigration status, their family life and future are made by detached staff deep within the Home Office.

The Dorset Eye is critical to raising awareness on such hidden matters. It offers the chance to combat the often hate-driven views of the corporate press who would rather we turn on each other than have compassion for our neighbour, even if that neighbour comes originally from far away.

Long live the Dorset Eye, long live freedom of speech!

I am very pleased to have found Dorset Eye, as it is a valuable source of information and opinion which exceeds way past the boundaries of Dorset. As someone who lives in Wales, I would like to commend and support Jason and the team for their tireless efforts in making people aware of information they may not otherwise find via the usual mainstream media outlets. Jason himself is a very intelligent, informed and articulate person, and I fully support what he and the team are attempting to achieve. I have also learned a lot about Dorset from the excellent, detailed, frequent local news features. Long may Dorset Eye continue to provide much-needed vision for us all!

I have known and read Dorset Eye since the moment I decided to give something back to this lovely community and make Dorset an even better place to live. Originally from Poland, I fell in love with this beautiful place and I hoped to find others who share my values. Passionate about linguistics, bilingualism and introducing more languages to children, I wanted to share my knowledge and experience with others. Dorset Eye offered to publish my articles about bilingualism, which I really appreciated. Now, I’m starting up a Mandarin Chinese Language School for children in Dorset and I’m hoping that again with the help and support of Dorset Eye I would be able to encourage people in Dorset to enable their children learn the language called by the British politicians “the language of the future”.

It is also always interesting to read the articles written by other people from Dorset. Local independent sources of information like Dorset Eye are definitely very important to the community.’

For Jd Meatyard Dorset Eye is a fine example of community press – a media platform that is local and, crucially, free of the murky shadow of Murdoch and the rest of the media ‘barons’. That aspect is pivotal to achieving and maintaining a true voice for the Dorset community.

In the present day situation in which clear manipulation and corruption of news is a commonplace, Dorset Eye offers a journalism of rather some integrity. Make no mistake, ‘local’ does not mean parochial.

Dorset Eye provides progressive, insightful pieces on all aspects of Dorset life, with an eye on the impact that wider government activities have on the area. Bravo to Dorset Eye, don’t let the mainstream press’ fear of ‘social media’ undermine your great work.

‘I am an activist. By definition, campaigning to bring about political and social change.  I support  Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party …
Social media has revolutionized the way we communicate and is now a powerful tool for activists … The popular DE is one such tool, many of us utilise ! …Bloggers can read or submit verified, informative reports on a daily basis …The Dorset Eye is an invaluable online news source, for individuals and organizations that share the same values and goals!  …The DE has, over the years brought together a network of like-minded people, our cause takes on a stronger purpose and we benefit from the camaraderie, support and knowledge.Through the DE, we are able to reach a large demographic and spread a message effectively, efficiently and most importantly, immediately.  Within the political world, it is imperative to maintain a strong web presence and the DE platform has proven it’s worth time over …

Our evolving society has turned our world into a brilliantly connected social platform, enabling us to create, spread and support messages and/or movements from around the globe.  Political activism and employing the use of social media go hand in hand.  The most successful movements and activists have taken advantage of the social media platform to remain at the top of this ever-evolving game of political activism!

Good luck with the relaunch! …’
