After their first season in Wheelchair Rugby BT Division 3 for The Dorset Destroyers Wheelchair Rugby Club, they now have 1 more match to deal with.

It’s a match that is a HUGE stepping stone for The Destroyers and for Wheelchair Rugby in Dorset.

In the warm up to the Invictus Games, Invictus Team GB are coming to:-                                                     Rossmore Leisure Centre, Herbert Avenue, Poole, BH12 4HR on Sunday July 2nd to play a warm up match against the Dorset Destroyers.

There has been a strong link between the Invictus Games and The Dorset Destroyers since the very beginning. When the Destroyers were having taster sessions in 2014, the Invictus Games was being shown live on BBC, and we had much interest from that, so much so that we ended up with 4 players who were training for the Games playing for us. 2 of whom are still with us.

Ben Steele went onto win Gold in London 2014 and Bronze in Miami 2016.

But the support from the Invictus players and staff to help us was enormous and it helped our cause when we were first starting. Several players and the Head Coach Paul Jenkins sent us items to sell from London 2014 to help us raise funds to set up the club.

And now with GBWR setting up a new variation of Wheelchair Rugby, which allows many more disabled people to have access to this great sport it can only be a great thing for the future of the sport. The Dorset Destroyers aim is to have a team in the traditional league and 2 teams in the variation. We are still looking for players to play in the traditional league.

The future of Wheelchair Rugby grows in strength and the Dorset Destroyers future is looking very rosy.
