“This Girl Can” is a cheeky national campaign involving all active women everywhere and has been developed by Sport England and partner organisations. It is a celebration of active women up and down the country who are committed to doing their thing, no matter what their age, how well they do it or what they like look when they are doing it. It’s all about building confidence and Osprey Leisure Centre on Portland is taking the opportunity to encourage all ladies to get involved.

Nigel Williams, General Manager at Osprey Leisure Centre said “We have many different sports and activities that are suitable to ladies including Powerhoop, Kettlebells, Archery, Badminton and Swimming.   Thousands of ladies around the country are getting involved in fitness and sport for the first time and at Osprey we have experts on hand to help girls through the initial stages when doing sport for the first time, as it can be intimidating”.

Social media plays a big part in building up confidence levels in ladies who may not have taken part in sporting activities before. Tweets of encouragement and LIKE’s after posting achievements on facebook walls, all help to build confidence and self-esteem. At Osprey Leisure instructors who specialise in female sport and fitness are available to guide ladies through new activities.

On Saturday 14th January 2017, Osprey Leisure Centre will be hosting an Open Day to celebrate its 10thanniversary. At the open day members and non-members will be invited to have a tour around the facilities at the centre, try out some new activities and enjoy refreshments in the Café.  The Open Day will start at 10am and will go on into the evening. Entry will be free, Live Bands from 6pm, Hog Roast, Pizza, Bar and evening Fireworks at 8pm weather permitting plus many more activities will be on offer for visitors to try.
