Language is important. Language has power: financial power, political power and cultural power. Therefore, those who have power have more influence. Here Andrew Pierce displays this in an extremely negative way by using the racist trope ‘black community’ working on the assumption that just because of the colour of a person’s skin they all share similar values, norms, morals… when in fact they are no more homogenous than white people. The more we allow others to get away with it the more ignorant and out of touch we become.

Thankfully Pierce was not allowed to get away with it and he then has to backtrack. However, we all know he will continue this trope at every opportunity because the right wing have an empirical tendency to prefer ignorance.

A language that is full of artifice obscures what is real and fogs up the window. People then see the world through fog when seeing it clearly is much more beneficial to us if not for those who seek to obscure.
