Tory councillor talks gibberish on Channel 4

Dorset Tory councillor Louie O’Leary is a marmite figure in his home town of Weymouth. The bigots love him and the open minded abhor him. Many say he is being groomed by another marmite figure Richard Drax MP to takeover the seat. A bit like if Ernst Rohm had replaced Heinrich Himmler. In a recent election, a ward in the borough united to keep O’Leary from winning the seat by voting for a Lib Dem candidate who had a much greater chance than others of success.

Sadly for all the rhetoric about immigrants and asylum seekers it is the dog whistle appeal to bigots that is the primary intention. Rational open minded people tend not to vote Tory. It is the ignorant and intellectually challenged that are their most likely recruits.

Even the Daily Mail has explained the nature of its readership and Conservative MP’s and voters.

‘Your political stance could be related to your intelligence. Or so claims a study published in Psychological Science, which claims that right-wing ideology forms a ‘pathway’ for people with low reasoning ability to become prejudiced against groups such as other races and gay people.

Quoting the study, The Daily Mail said, “Crucially, people’s educational level is not what determines whether they are racist or not – it’s innate intelligence, according to the academics. Social status also appears to play no part.

The study had been conducted on a sample of around 15000 people and analysed large UK studies which compared childhood intelligence with political views in adulthood. The paper said, “‘Cognitive abilities are critical in forming impressions of other people and in being open minded. Individuals with lower cognitive abilities may gravitate towards more socially conservative right-wing ideologies that maintain the status quo. It provides a sense of order.”

However, the authors while maintaining that there was a strong correlation between intelligence and conservatism, they said, “Clearly, however, all socially conservative people are not prejudiced, and all prejudiced persons are not conservative.”‘

Therefore, it comes as no surprise that when arguing against asylum seekers being housed in Portland Port Mr O’Leary resorts to unintelligable nonsense. His main argument is that there is one way on and off Portland and thus it is not appropriate. He then goes on to tell the interviewer that they “…cannot do the work of God and put another access route on Portland. Central government can do a lot of things but they cannot change nature.” First, he has mixed the hand of God with nature. One is supernatural and the other is existential.

Also the road to and from Portland is human made and is neither God made or natural. And probabably the most important part is that God would never vote Tory. He is mixing up God with Satan.

Social media has been awash with sympathy for the people of South Dorset after this interview.

Perhaps the Mayor of Portland should be the one being groomed as the next MP for South Dorset as he has a much more realistic understanding of the issue

Local and national politics is brimming with ambitious but ill prepared people who are ignorant and dangerous. Why? Because many voters are also ignorant and dangerous.

And for those who prefer FACTS over FAKE
