Trump and Republicans rally behind Putin

Having the flag flying outside of your abode used to be about being patriotic and getting behind the nation. In a country in which it is expected, in many states, to have the flag flapping from a pole to show ones allegiance it now appears that another flag may be necessary. Not the Stars and Stripes but the State Flag of the Russian Federation. Venturing across Republican states in the future will possibly include a whole new experience. Images of Putin, or whoever the Russian leader is at the time, will replace the US President. Unless that President is a Republican.

The shift in allegiance reflects the polarity of US politics right now. Similar to the UK it has become nasty and vicious. Knowledge and truth have become an inconvenience. Bigotry and ignorance are now the desirables.

We know in part why. Donald Trump in the US and the likes of Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage in the UK have turned domestic politics in to a snake pit. You are either for us or against us. The nuance has all but vanished.

To understand where the US is right now the following four minutes helps to contextualise.

And the Liar in Chief Donald Trump? What does he have to say?

Interview with Travis and Sexton:

Trump is hardly the only figure making such arguments. Many on the right seem to have bought into Putin’s claims that he is merely protecting his country and that it is the West that is showing aggression as NATO has moved closer to Russia’s borders since the breakup of the Soviet Union. This is of course, in part, true and the left share a very similar discourse. However, the left have always pointed this out. The isolationist right wing are very late to the party and are motivated by very different things.

For the left it is about reconstructing the planet in an egalitarian theme. For the right it is merely about conning the public to enable them to regain power and thus continue sowing their seeds of destruction.

Once the bodies start piling up Trump and his clan will have to be able to explain why he continues to support Putin. For Boris Johnson it is about protecting NATO and about protecting himself. His position is one of weakness. For Trump he has no such concerns. He is convinced 2024 will return him to the White House. The America he may inherit will resemble rabid gladiators and the Republican alliance with Putin may play a key to what happens next.

Is the empire about to follow all other empires and collapse in to the dust?
