Weymouth has once again been recognised as one of the best seaside destinations in the country.

Following on from recognition from the Seaside and Blue Flag Awards, alongside being ranked as the number one beach for a staycation by Cosmopolitan magazine, Weymouth has now been placed in the top 5 best seaside towns for families by dayoutwiththekids.co.uk.

Over 2,000 families were quizzed on their favourite seaside towns and what they love most about the coast. To “fish” out the best “plaices” to go, families were asked about everything from sea and sunshine to ice cream and crabbing.Towns were also judged on the following: family attractions, the amount of beaches (Blue Flag and otherwise) in a 10 mile radius, fish and chip shops, Instagram hashtags and check-ins, the cost of an ice cream, the average temperature and rainy days in August.

When all of this data was crunched, Weymouth came out in an impressive fourth place, finishing one place above Blackpool. Bournemouth, Brighton and Torquay make up the rest of the top five. This also means that Weymouth is in the prestigious Gold category, indicating that Weymouth is one of the most well-rounded seaside resorts in the country. This accolade recognises seaside towns which perform strongly in terms of clean beaches, safety, fun things to do, good weather and beauty spots.

Jane Biscombe, Weymouth Town Clerk, said: “As a Town Council, we are very proud of Weymouth’s success as a tourist destination. Officers work around the clock to ensure that Weymouth is a welcoming and exciting place for the whole family. We are very pleased to be recognised as one of the best seaside resorts in the country.”

Lisa O’Keeffe, Senior Brand & Content Manager at dayoutwiththekids.co.uk, said:“Going to the seaside is a staple part of British childhood, and as the research shows, it’s still a firm favourite for families. UK seaside resorts have benefitted hugely from the rise in staycations in recent years, and as the trend continues to grow, it’s really exciting to see all the towns on this list really embracing family visitors and improving their offer.“Weymouth is a fantastic resort, and we’re thrilled to award it gold status for 2019.”
