Wimborne War on Waste (WoW*) is proud to announce their PLASTIC FREE STREET PARTY on Saturday 22 September 12-4pm, all are welcome.

WoW are holding a Plastic Free Street party to celebrate those in their community who have been actively reducing and removing their single use plastic over the past few months, working towards ‘Plastic Free’ Community Status. See Surfer’s Against Sewage Criteria for more details: https://www.sas.org.uk / plastic-free-communities/. This campaign is serving to unite whole communities in the reduction of single use plastic (not all plastics).

WoW are holding the Street Party in Wimborne, Dorset and will be filling the Square, the High Street and the Minster Green with plenty of ‘single use plastic free’ family-friendly activities, workshops, stalls, live music, games, radio, a solar powered disco, a repair cafe, a clothing switch-it stall, pledges, balloon alternatives and much, much more. WoW are closing the roads to traffic as picnic tables will line the High Street and will be laid with crockery and cutlery. Food is not provided so PLEASE bring a container or plate (not disposable) of food to share. As always, Wimborne’s local cafes will also be open to sell tasty snacks.

This event is about inspiring, enabling, sharing ideas and celebrating those businesses, groups and individuals who have already made significant changes in their use of single use plastic. It is also about supporting those who may never have considered reducing their single use plastic before, and offering simple ideas, swaps and alternatives so that everyone can start to make changes, no matter how small! Wimborne BID have kindly sponsored a town straw amnesty. The public and businesses can bring along their unwanted plastic straws on the day to be safely recycled by Terra Cycle.

The stallholders and workshops are working in partnership with WoW’s ethos and come from a wide range of community and eco groups. There will be a ‘Plastic Free Heroes’ town trail for you to explore and shop windows with themed displays to find as part of a competition with exciting prizes! Tea, coffee and smoothies will be available from the town’s Fair Trade friends. You can even take a ride on their smoothie bike.

All are welcome to join the Plastic Free Street Party at 12pm when the Mayor of Wimborne will be officially opening the event. Please spread the word and keep an eye on WoW’s Facebook page for updates and more details. You can also contact WoW at [email protected]
